Семинар „Антропологични четения“ има удоволствието да посрещне д-р Андреа Боскобойник от Фрибургския университет (Швейцария). В рамките на семинара д-р Боскобойник ще изнесе лекция, озаглавена „Urbanising Nature? Lifestyle Migration and the Transformation of Alpine Landscapes“. Събитието ще се проведе на английски език. Резюме на лекцията: Mountain landscapes have gradually become desirable places to live, particularly among affluent urban populations. Over the past decades, the social representation of the mountains has shifted from one of danger, fear and remoteness towards one of well-being, authenticity and an appealing alternative to urban life. Drawing on research conducted in two Alpine resorts in Switzerland, this presentation focuses on the motivations and trajectories of urban residents who have visited, invested in, and settled in mountain regions over the past three decades. These forms of mobility cannot be explained by economic considerations. They are closely related to lifestyle aspirations, including the search for a better quality of life, proximity to nature, well-being, leisure opportunities and a sense of authenticity. The presentation explores the paradox at the heart of this process: while newcomers are attracted by the natural environment and frequently emphasise the value of nature in their accounts, they also bring with them practices, expectations and forms of consumption associated with urban lifestyles. Thus, they actively contribute to the social, cultural and material transformation of mountain places. The presentation finally asks how the desire to live ‘closer to nature’ may itself become a driver of the urbanisation of mountain landscapes.
