Participants:
The event will be held in a hybrid format – both in the specified hall and online. Attendees will include students from the Departments of Administration and Management and Natural Sciences, Erasmus students, and students from the ERUA Alliance universities. The event is open to everyone interested.
The topic of the event will be “Sustainability in every career,” as this concept is increasingly permeating not only roles dedicated to environmental protection but also those that rely directly on the exploitation of Earth’s resources. The format will be a hybrid workshop, in which students of different backgrounds will be split into small groups (both in-person and online) and given a practical case to solve about the implementation and integration of sustainable principles in careers not typically associated with them. The groups will present their solutions to their peers in order to receive feedback and develop their ideas further. The event will interactively and proactively show that no matter your career path, you can push for change and mindfulness about ecological boundaries.
Multiple opportunities for engagement with ERUA’s Blue Commission and the youth-lead organization, Our Youth 4 The Climate, will be presented.
The Blue Commission is a student-lead group from the 8 ERUA universities, focused on the implementation of sustainable practices and campaigns within the higher education institutions of the alliance. It does so through the organization of yearly events, such as clean-ups, Forums, workshops and lecture series, which the aforementioned event will be part of.
The supporting organization will be Our Youth 4 The Climate (OY4C). Emerging from a youth-led initiative, it aims to provide high-quality, accessible, and comprehensive climate education to future generations, while simultaneously raising public awareness and promoting action for a shared future.
OY4C has created the first-of-its-kind climate curriculum—developed by young people for young people. This program equips students with fundamental knowledge about the climate and its often-overlooked social dimensions, examined through a global and intersectional lens. The vision is to inspire the youngest generations to pursue careers in environmental protection, or, at the very least, integrate ecological principles into their professional work.
Their curriculum is spreadt not only through direct communication with schools but also through connections with current and former students who wish to reach out to their schools to introduce it.
It would be beneficial for OY4C to have the opportunity to share their experiences with students from the reform-oriented universities—potential implementers of the program—just as it would be valuable for the Blue Committee to learn what draws young people to the cause.
OY4C have previously organized a panel discussion on the same topic with a guest speaker, as well as other similar events.
